Digital trail is the data that you leave on the internet after using. It means that whenever you post or share any information on social media, or you go to any websites, that information will be recorded on the internet.

There are two main types of digital trial:

  • Passive: it is the digital footprint that you unintentionally leave on the internet. Example: history of your searching in google or browser.
  • Active: It is the trail that you post or submit on the internet. Example: the comment that you post in your Facebook account. The funny video that you share on Facebook.

Why is the digital trail important and how will it affect us?

People are able to know personal information by gathering data from the digital footprint. They can know information such as religion, ages, interests, address, and names. Therefore, it is important to understand about managing the digital trail and create a positive trail on the internet or your personal social media account.

How can we create a positive digital trail?

  • Set privacy setting on social media
  • Only sharing or posting positive information
  • Be aware of the comment or post that you are going to share on the social media
